The government of Maharashtra has launched the Chief Minister Solar Pump Programme for farmers. Around one lakh pumps will be installed at an investment of about Rs 3,435 crore in the next three years. In FY19, 25,000 pumps will be installed, while another 50,000 pumps will be set up by FY20 and the remaining 25,000 by FY21
Apart from this, the small-scale solar pump programme is already being implemented by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (Mahadiscom). The programme is aimed at providing power to farmers during daylight hours and enhance irrigation coverage of farmland
For the past 15 years, farmers got power to operate pumps and irrigating their land only at night, owing to power shortage. For availing the pump set and solar panel, farmers in the open category will have to pay 10 percent of the total cost, while for reserved category it is at five percent. The rest of the cost will be borne by Mahadiscom
Moreover, the state cabinet has also decided to provide special project vehicle (SPV) status for Dharavi redevelopment project
The SPV status has been provided as the project has not received a favourable response from redevelopers, owing to problems due to high population and mixed use of land
