Nagaland chief minister T.R. Zeliang laid the foundation stone for two projects to improve roads at Purana Bazaar junction here
The two-laning of the 4.4km stretch from New Field checkgate to Zion Hospital and four-laning of the 12.9km road from Zion Hospital to Chumukedima are part of the project to repair National Highway 39 at a cost of Rs 509.08 crore. Zeliang expressed hope the projects would ease traffic bottlenecks in the commercial hub
Expressing gratitude to Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari for sanctioning the project, Zeliang said it was a long-felt need of the people of Dimapur.
Citing the example of Western Angami, Zeliang called upon public leaders and village authority to pass resolutions to remove roadblocks in development work
The chief minister regretted that four-laning of the Dimapur-Kohima road did not materialise owing to objections from various quarters. Stating that a four-lane highway from Dimapur to Kohima would soon be a reality, he appealed to the people to extend cooperation to ensure timely completion of projects
Minister in-charge (national highways) Y.V. Swu spoke about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Act East Policy under which 10 Southeast Asian countries would be linked. "Nagas have a huge role to play in implementing the Act East Policy," he said
Cabinet ministers, parliamentary secretaries, advisers, deputy commissioner, commissioner of police and village council members were present
