The road connecting Ashiana Nagar Mor with the BMP grounds via Kautilya Nagar in west Patna is to be widened, as also the road connecting Kautilya Nagar with Aranya Bhavan near Patna airport
The road construction department has taken up the work that will also involve covering of the drain running parallel to Kautilya Nagar road. Once that is done, these roads will become two-lane (7m), giving much relief to commuters
At present these are single-lane roads. Several former and existing lawmakers will also get relief, as their cooperative society is in Kautilya Nagar. "The tender for this project has been finalised and the deal with the selected firm will be executed in February after which work starts," road construction minister Nand Kishore Yadav
The project entails a cost component of Rs 19.85 crore and will be completed in a year. "Widening of this road would bring huge relief to those headed towards the airport, as they can then avoid the busy Raja Bazaar area," Ashiana Mor resident Ashraf said
The road construction department also plans to widen the Ashiana-Rajiv Nagar road running parallel to the open drain. The existing road is a two-lane one; construction of the 4.4km-long new road, by covering the drain, will add two more lanes. The project has an estimated cost component of Rs 175 crore, which may be revised after formulation of the detailed project report
We have floated tenders to select a consultant to formulate the DPR," the minister said. The Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited will execute the project
Nand Kishore also shared details of a new, elevated road that will provide direct connectivity between Rajendra Nagar and Gandhi Setu's southern end and also Pahari area
The project has two components - construction of a 5km double-decker road on the Saidpur drain between Rajendra Nagar and the southern end of Gandhi Setu for around Rs 505 crore, and building of a 2km road between Gandhi Setu and Pahari locality at Rs 92 crore
While the elevated portion of the road would be used by commuters going to Gandhi Setu and Pahari, the lower segment, on the ground, would be for residents who reside along the drain," Yadav said. He said the consultant for this project would be selected through competitive bidding for formulation of the detailed project report
As far as work on the Rajiv Nagar and Saidpur drain roads are concerned, it was likely to commence by the end of this year
