The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has planned to earmark 1,172 hectares land to develop runway in the proposed new greenfield airport project in Shivdaspura

The JDA has proposed to acquired 2,094 hectares in 20 villages for the greenfield airport project. The land for the runway will be acquired from eight villages

An official informed, "As per the proposal, the runway would be 6 km in length and 2.5 km in width

Following the direction of Urban Development and Housing (UDH), the JDA has sent Google Map coordinates. The JDA in November forwarded the Khasra wise land acquisition proposal to the state government. However, on the demand of UDH, proposal of land acquisition on google image was sent once again

"The acquisition of land will be done by district administration. The process of land acquisition starts with preparation of Social Impact Assessment (SIA) study. The district administration will issue a notification for conducting SIA study. This study is requires at least six months time for completion

" After the recent visit of minister of state for civil aviation Jayant Sinha, the state government expedited the exercise to acquire land for second airport in the city

During his visit, Sinha said that in next five years Sanganer airport will not be big enough to cater to air traffic. According to sources, following this a high level committee meeting was called where JDA was directed to submit the proposal

The JDA would forward the revise proposal for approval to the state government," added source Earlier, it was questioned several times the need to have Greenfield Airport in the close vicinity of existing Sanganer airport, which is only 25 km away. Sources, however, said, the minister mentioned the new airport should be shifted beyond 20-km radius of the existing one

According to sources, as per the government of India's Greenfield Airports Policy, Airports Authority of India (AAI) can set up an airport within a radius of 150-km from an existing civilian airport after receiving recommendations from the steering committee. The Central government (ministry of civil aviation) then considers the recommendation and decides whether approval for the airport project should be granted or not, sources said
