Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar proposed a slew of road projects for the state during the launch of various infrastructure schemes by PM Narendra Modi here
Gadkari said the Centre was constructing a greenfield expressway from Lucknow to Ballia via Gorakhpur and suggested that it should be connected with Patna. "However, the state government will have to provide land required for the project which will ensure expressway connectivity between Patna and New Delhi
He said the Centre would construct a 14km-long four-lane elevated expressway between Patna and Bihta airbase (Khagaul- Shivala-Bihta road). The state government has recently agreed to provide 108 acre land to Airports Authority of India for commencing commercial flight operations from Bihta airbase
Speaking on the occasion, Nitish assured Gadkari that there would be no problem in land acquisition for any project in Bihar. He also demanded from the Centre a four-lane road between Buxar and Varanasi and a bridge parallel to Vikramshila at Bhagalpur
"I am aware that the greenfield expressway is proposed up to Ghazipur, which is very close to Buxar. Hence, I will request you to construct a road between Buxar and Varanasi so that people from Patna would have smooth access to the expressway," Nitish said
Praising Gadkari for his positive approach towards work, Nitish said: "No is not in his dictionary. We will help and cooperate in carrying out land acquisition for all developmental projects
While talking about cleanliness and uninterrupted flow in the Ganga, the CM requested Gadkari, who is also the minister of Ganga rejuvenation, not to discharge even treated water into any river from the sewage treatment plants being constructed in the country under Namami Gange programme. While mentioning the problem of silt in the Ganga due to Farakka barrage, Nitish also requested Gadkari to hold separate discussion on the issue to ensure the uninterrupted flow of the river in Bihar
Gadkari, on the other hand, said the Centre has earmarked Rs20,000 crore for Namami Gange project till the year 2020. "Out of the 97 cities along the Ganga across the country, 10 cities, including Patna, Bhagalpur, Allahabad and Varanasi, pollute it the most. Making the Ganga cleaner is a tough task, but we will do it at any cost," Gadkari added
