With an aim to protect the natural heritage of Goa, a group of heritage activists have raised strong concern over huge chunks of comunidade land allegedly being grabbed by some of the biggest names in the Goan real estate industry on the Pilerne plateau . A group of heritage activists on Thursday visited the plateau to get a first-hand experience of the development coming up on the ecosensitive area
TOI observed that the area where a mega project is supposed to come up is right behind the Pilerne seminary. TOI also noticed that the plateau, which is a forested area, is a natural habitat to a number of peacocks and peahens who come here to lay their eggs. It was observed that the builder has also put up stones demarcating the area where the mega project is supposed to come up.
Speaking to mediapersons, history lover and heritage activist Prajal Sakhardande said that they have learnt that some developmental project is supposed to come up in the area. "We have learnt that around 69 houses are supposed to come up on comunidade land," said Sakhardande. Speaking further, he said, that nothing can come up on comunidade land for commercial purposes. We are protesting against it as we do not want any mega projects to come up on ecosensitive areas," Sakhardande added.
Here there are birds, animals, and trees which makes it a very beautiful natural heritage plateau, we don't want any development to come up on such an area which is also marked on RP 2021," said Sakhardande.
