The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the World Bank will jointly fund the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP)-III infrastructure projects in a 40:60 ratio
The estimated cost of the project is Rs 10,000 crore
The railway authorities proposed a loan of Rs 7,000 crore from the international financial institutions, while the remaining amount of Rs 4,441 crore will be equally financed by the railway ministry and the state government
The tenders for the project will be floated by the end of December 2016
Work on the project is expected to begin by October 2017, and will take at least five years to complete
The MUTP-III project comprises construction of the third and fourth lines between Virar-Dahanu of 63 km; Airoli-Kalwa of four km which will offer easier access to suburban commuters between Kalyan-Panvel; and doubling of Panvel-Karjat of 28 km
