In a bid to speed up the capital city development, the government has decided to start construction of the light metro project and five over bridges at the earliest

A meeting convened by PWD Minister G Sudhakaran and Electricity Minister Kadakampally Surendran, the minister in charge of the district, decided to speed up works to the tune of Rs 400 crore. The over bridges are to be built at Sreekaryam, Ulloor, Kumarapuram, Pattom and Thampanoor, five of the more crowded junctions in the city

Work on the light metro will be speeded up using funds allocated under the Major Infrastructure Development project head in the budget, said officials with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation who attended the meeting

A tentative alignment for this ambitious project links Technocity and Karamana Rs 25 crore has been earmarked for the fly-overs at Ulloor, Kumarapuram and Thampanoor junctions and Rs 10 crore for the underpasses at Pattom and Peroorkada junctions. Various other projects for which budget allocations have been made also will be rolled out soon

This include Phase II works of the Karamana-Kalayikkavila road widening (Rs 200 crore), Sivagiri ring road (Rs 10 crore), Palode Brymore road (Rs 20 crore), Ponmudi-Brymore road (Rs 10 crore) and the Venjaramoodu ring road (Rs 15 crore)
